Spotlight: Allen Spence
What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
Worked for a week on the Ironman II movie set. My company donated the welding equipment and a welding robot, and I was there in case they needed the robot to be programmed to move. I was taught to weld and program robots for my job, which I did for 38 years.
What is your favorite hobby?
Hiking with Maria, plus golf and skiing with friends. Enjoy drawing and painting, and reading the classics.
What would it be if you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life?
Stone crab at Joe's - Key Biscayne, FL.
What’s one item you can’t live without?
Magnified shaving mirror on bathroom counter.
Which car that you have owned has been dearest to your heart?
My first car after college, an Olds Cutlass T-top with a four-barrel. Drove it in a parade once. Sadly, it was stripped to the bone in Cleveland at a total loss.
When did you join the car club, and why?
April 2025, after sitting with Jim and Angela at an AZ Community Foundation lunch. We discussed the Sedona Car Club, and it sounded fun, and I was looking to meet people and, of course, I love cars.
What car are you most fond of and why?
1967 Jaguar XKE. It was the first car I fell in love with, as a boy of seven. That and the James Bond car from Goldfinger.
What do you like most about the car club? What do you like the least?
Most: I enjoy the road trips and the monthly meetings (getting together and speakers).
Least: I still do not own a Porsche 911, though we just bought a new Mercedes S500 for touring
What is your most memorable road trip or vacation from your childhood?
Trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, including stopping to see grandparents along the way. The ocean water is warm there.
What do you do for fun?
Various hobbies (see above) and following the Steelers, though they are not always fun to watch.
If you had an unlimited budget, what would be your dream car?
2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S. 0-60 in 2.4 seconds!
